WHAT YOU CAN DO

Learning Goals (Can-do)

Our Japanese language curriculum sets learning goals aligned with the CEFR levels A1 through B2, based on the "Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education" established by MEXT. We systematically cover five language activities, and learning outcomes are assessed against these goals.

CEFR A1 — Beginner I

If spoken to clearly and slowly, students can understand frequently used everyday expressions and basic phrases, and use them to convey simple requests. With the help of a patient speaker, students can handle simple exchanges such as greetings, self-introductions, and talking about their immediate surroundings.

CEFR A2 — Beginner II

Students can understand frequently used vocabulary and expressions in areas of immediate relevance such as family, shopping, neighborhood, and work, and can exchange information on familiar, everyday topics.

CEFR B1 — Pre-Intermediate

Students can understand the main points of familiar topics encountered in work, school, and leisure when spoken in standard language.

Students aim to explain experiences, events, hopes, and opinions with reasons — not just in fragments, but as coherent, connected speech or writing.

CEFR B2 Equivalent — Intermediate

Students aim to understand the main content of complex speech and texts, including both concrete and abstract topics beyond familiar ones, and to explain their own opinions and ideas.

CEFR B2 Equivalent — Upper Intermediate

Students aim to grasp the main points across a wide range of topics and explain them logically using reasons, evidence, and examples.

*The CEFR framework defines six proficiency levels from A1 to C2. For instructional purposes, our school subdivides the B2 level into "Intermediate" and "Upper Intermediate" (both correspond to B2 on the CEFR scale).
